The hearing aid, like any other electronic device, cannot function without a power source, and as it is a portable device it is powered by a battery.

Hearing aid batteries are a special type and should not be confused with similar batteries for watches, remote controls, etc. We distinguish between disposable batteries that are zinc-air type and rechargeable Li-ion batteries.

Zinc-air batteries (Zn-air)

This type of battery provides your hearing aid with optimal energy which is achieved by a special construction that uses air to activate and produce energy. Zinc-air batteries last longer than any other type of battery of the same size with the same consumption.

Battery sizes

The size of the battery depends on the type of hearing aid, and we distinguish them by typical markings and color:

10 (PR70)   yellow
312 (PR41)  brown
13 (PR48)   orange
675 (PR44)   blue

For battery size in your hearing aid, ask your hearing care professional – otoacustics.

Use

In order to work properly, the zinc-air battery uses oxygen from the air, and it is necessary to remove the sticky label from + side to activate the battery before use. It takes some time to activate and reach full capacity, so don not put the battery into operation immediately after removing the label, but wait a few minutes.

Battery durability and storage

When putting the battery in the hearing aid, pay attention to the polarity (+/-), as indicated in the instructions for use of your hearing aid.

The durability of the batteries (until the sticky label is removed) is indicated on the packaging, and the battery life in use cannot be precisely determined because it depends on the type of hearing aid, the degree of hearing damage, the number of hours of use during the day, environment, humidity, etc.

Approximately, batteries can last for several days, but also for several weeks – for the expected battery life in your hearing aid, ask your hearing care professional – otoacustic.

Keep batteries at room temperature in the original packaging. Avoid damp areas and exposure to sunlight. Do not carry the batteries outside the packaging in your pocket with keys or coins, as this may result in a short circuit. Batteries which have expired are not recommended

Rechargeable batteries

Rechargeable batteries are the lithium-ion (Li-ion) type or less frequent silver zinc (Ag-Zn), and nowadays they are usually installed in a rechargeable hearing aid.

Charging is done by simply putting hearing aids in the charger and their capacity is sufficient for approximately one day of use.
