Powerful and flexible, for mild to severe hearing loss, Behind-The-Ear (BTE) hearing aids have their components housed together behind the ear.

Behind-the-ear hearing aid have all required components, but to work properly it requires additional components to transfer sound into the ear canal. These components consist of an ear hook, tube, and an anatomically shaped earmold placed in the ear canal. Some BTE models can be fitted with thin tube to which comes non-custom silicon dome.

Models and suitability

BTE hearing aids are available in many different types, shapes, sizes and colors. Generally, they have buttons that allow user control of the device.

Available in the following models: miniBTE, BTE, BTE P, BTE SP and BTE UP. They can be used from mild to severe hearing loss.

The thin tube version is very popular because of its discreet look and comfortable fit for many users. That type is suitable for mild to moderate hearing loss.

Why choose behind-the-ear hearing aids?

If you have severe or mild hearing loss, and you want powerful and durable aid that is easy to use and handle, then BTE type is the right solution for you. With a large selection of sizes (depending on the degree of hearing damage), smaller or larger batteries, anatomically shaped earmolds from acrylic or soft materials to thin tubes with silicone domes, an appropriate combination can be found for everyone.

Pros

Behind-the-ear hearing aids are popular because they allow adjustment to a wide range of users. They are suitable for all degrees of hearing loss and provide good flexibility if needed (e.g., minor hearing loss deterioration or the need to move the aids to the other ear).

They are very powerful and durable, and thin tube option is very discreet. BTE hearing aids use bigger batteries that have longer life and high-quality models generally have directional microphone feature and the ability to connect wirelessly to a smartphone or TV adapter.

Cons

Behind-the-ear hearing aids have housing parts behind the ear and earmold in the ear, which sometimes may be a problem for fitting. They can be visible to other people if the user have short hair, and it is difficult to hide the tube.
